Site-specific

(A Parkour Juggling Film)

A short film exploring site specific circus in urban spaces. I explore a relationship between Juggling and Parkour. Made in 2024 in the City of Bristol. Made as part of developing my creative practice.

I have now developed these ideas and techniques in to an outdoor show called GREY AREA. It’s a street performance, blending juggling, parkour, and clowning to reimagine the overlooked ‘grey zones’ of the urban. Find more info here! If you book GREY AREA for your event then this film can be shown as a wraparound activity or extra if film is part of your program.

TOUGH CROWD

Tough Crowd follows the desperate journey of the juggler, as he ventures out in search of an audience. Exploring public space and circus in the virtual landscape, this short film finds humour in the complexities of the current climate. Born out of a larger project from 2022 involving creating and filming a video every day for 6 months, it prompts the viewer to contemplate the cultural zeitgeist. This film was selected to be apart of the Circus International Film Festival 2022 and shown as part of Bristols Circus City Festival 2022. Filmed, directed and juggled by Charles Brockbank

outside the club

Short film made by Broken Box Collective in 2019. Outside the Club is a game of ever-changing rules. It combines technical juggling, sculpture and dance to create a series of complex worlds which require extreme cooperation and competition to succeed. The personal politics between the three characters, their objects and their audience create moments of comedy and pain which reflect larger societal relationships and the feelings evoked by the UK’s changing political landscape. Juggling by Charles Brockbank, Ben Nicholson and Robin Boon Dale. Film narrative assembled by Charles Brockbank. Filming and editing by Richard D’Costa of D’Costa Films.

Blog?

If you like these short films then you might enjoy looking back at some blog I was updating a few years ago.

As mentioned in the description of Tough Crowd I undertook a project where I made a short creative video everyday for a year. I set out to do it for week but enjoyed it too much to stop and ended up doing it for a year. This research has informed my creative practice and the projects I’m working on now. On the blog I updated it each week with my favorite video form the week. You will also find other things sprikled in like touring, other research and crafts.
